Toronto Star: Mount Sinai offers novel treatment for abdominal cancer

Mount Sinai is the only hospital in Ontario to perform hyperthermal intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), an aggressive treatment that can improve outcomes for patients like Edina Van Staveren, who was diagnosed in 2011 with appendix cancer that had spread throughout her abdomen. One year ago this month, Edina received HIPEC treatment from Dr. Andrea McCart, who has performed 100 treatments since bringing this cutting-edge approach to Mount Sinai from the U.S. four years ago.
